Happy lunar new year to all! 😀
Haha just finished watching the unbelievably lame countdown show by Channel 8. Its funny how the standard of mandarin countdown events never EVER improve! Our jokes and games are FOREVER the same. The way they interview the “stars”, the kids that come out to dance and jump around without synchrony, the same old arrangement for new year songs, that same zodiac man and the NON-LIVE singing performances by our supposedly biggest ah ge ah jie (big brother big sister of mediacorp). Its just like a repeated telecast of the usual Sheng Siong show.
And furthermore, I dont know why our artistes are always using the same old lines every year. Gong xi fa cai , ___ nian xing da yun! (Happy new year, may you prosper in the ___ year!) Just fill in the blanks with the current zodiac year, (which, if you still dunno, is the rabbit this year) and you get the most frequently used line by our mediarcorp artises. Yup! So thats how bad our standards are. Everything always seem to be planned so last minute, which is the only reason I can think of to explain why everything is so… fixed, straight, dull and not live (i mean the singing). K then, enough ranting. Its not like i can do a better job anw. Just my 2 cents, from a viewers point of view. I’m still a fan of our local dramas though 🙂 That, I still am! 🙂
Alright. So hows new year for you guys so far? I’ve already had 2 yu sheng so far. The first one last week, during my HUGE reunion dinner with the entire family and the second one today, (or should i say yesterday) with my own family of 4 🙂 I bet alot of you have had a few more than me already. LOL! Nvm, its not like i’m a hardcore fan of yu shengs anw.
(Oh btw, I bet most of you only aim for the golden pillows rite? hahaha! Busted! 😛 )
K, lets give you guys an update on what had been going on for the past few days.
Found out about this NUS talent time thingy a few weeks back through NUS mail.
Apparently, its not a very big scale thingy like Stardust and I dont even know who or what NUSSU IRC is. The only IRC i know is the chat program i used eons ago. And I thought “hmm since its not so big, no registration fees and $1000 to be won, why not?” So after some consideration, i’ve decided to take a leap of faith (not much of it actually) and take part!
And just what am i going to perform? Wrestle an imaginary bear? Breathe fire? Eat 50 billion hotdogs? Shoot peas out of my nose? Squirt milk out of my eyeball? Spit watermelon seeds? Pull a snake out of my pants? (K sounds wrong)
Nope! I’m going to play music, OBVIOUSLY! Haha, but not alone. I’m going to form an acoustic band and do this as our first gig! 🙂
So who are my members so far?
Veronde (A.K.A Ah Ma) – Superb singer.
Nic – Super zai acoustic guitarist.
Jeremy – Awesome percussionist.
Zhi Xiang – God of keyboard.
And whats the band name? Lady Crab. Dont ask why. I’ll explain next time if we ever get famous. But i’m pretty sure some high IQ-ers will be able to get it quite easily 😛 We’ll see who they are 🙂
Haha yup! 🙂 i’ve just registered for it and i’m actually not even sure if we can even enter the competition now, since there’s ONLY 100 audition spots available. And 280++ ppl have already “liked” the Sparkz page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Sparkz/158552084896) on facebook. Do the maths, and you will realise that we might not even make it past the registration stage!! LOL! But oh well, its not like we’re really desperate for it anw 😛 If it works out, it works out. If not, there’s always plenty of chances to perform 😉
In any case, we will be covering two songs (shall keep it as a surprise for now). Will keep you guys updated. If we do enter the finals (IF!), you might just get to hear me SING for the first time! 🙂 So stay tuned and wish me luck! 🙂
Had a great supper with nic and ah ma a few days back and we happen to stumble upon the topic of “First Impressions”.
Its actually quite funny to find out that Ah ma’s first impression of me wasnt that good! Or at least it wasnt as good as i thought it should be! LOL! I mean i’ve always thought that my first impressions to others would be like chirpy, funny, or maybe friendly. Haha but based on her descriptions of me, I seemed to be slightly obnoxious. But obnoxious is too strong a word i think! Hmm more like…loud-mouthed maybe? haha! But, to be more exact, she felt I was a musically inclined, high-profile loud mouth.
And why this is so, is due to her first encounter with me in the Voices jam studio.
Oh before that, I would just like to say that Ah Ma does the BEST IMPRESSIONS of me! Its funny to the MAX! Couldnt stop laughing after i saw her trying to mimic my actions. Someday, you guys should get her to do it in front of u all. Its funny cause I can totally imagine myself doing it! LOL!
Anyway, according to her, this was what happened that day, which resulted in her thinking that i was a loudmouth!
Some jamming was going on. And she was standing behind the door. And I opened the door. Walked into the room, with big actions and all. Then strided RIGHT INTO THE CENTER of the studio. I dont think i noticed her anyway cause she was kinda like hidden in one corner. And after that, I put my hands on my hips, looked around and realising that I have nothing much to do there, I simply shouted “AI YA! SIAN AH” And then i walked out! LOL!! Funny thing is i dont remember it clearly but i somewhat have an impression of it! Oh well!
After that, she explained to me why she thought I was some musically inclined and a high profile person in Voices.
It was during her practice with Johnathan, for her munchie monkey’s performance. And I happened to see them practising while walking around school with Kai li. So i kinda sat down, and started giving them lots of pointers about how to improve. Mercilessly. So this kinda gave her the impression that I was a very good musician (which i still am! *AHEM*), and at the same time, high profile enough to comment with such vigor and dont-give-face-attitude.
LOL! Ok, I dont deny that I am always more enthu and serious when it comes to anything thats music, be it singing, rhythm or arrangement of songs. But I definitely didnt expect myself to be portrayed as the person she described me to be. hahaha! And thats why the entire conversation was so funny. So many misunderstanding and misconceptions that werent clarified for so long, until that supper night!
No wonder they say, first impression matters! 😛
Totally enjoyed that supper btw 🙂
Actually…this kinda makes me very curious on how many other misconceptions there are about me! Haha! I mean the common misconception would be my age obviously. I mean my age can somehow range from 12 to 25. And sadly, my actual age is the final number in that range, which means that most ppl dont actually guess it right 😦 Oh well! 🙂 Have gotten used to it anw!
But in any case, I’m dying to hear more first impressions about me! 🙂 Do me a favour! Comment by clicking on the speech bubble above and let me know! 🙂 Doesnt matter if its bad or what. Afterall, its only the first impression and if you’re reading this blog, you would most probably know what I’m really like/my actual character is by now. So feel free to shoot! 🙂 And if you tell me, maybe i’ll let u know my first impressions of you too! hahaha! Lets see how this goes 🙂
Shall end this post here. Remember to comment! You can leave your new year wishes there as well 😛
Hare-py New Year too all then! May all your CAP soar and happiness grow everyday!
HUAT AH! 🙂
