Happy new year 兔 everyone!

Posted: February 3, 2011 in Friends, Music, Rants

Happy lunar new year to all! 😀

Haha just finished watching the unbelievably lame countdown show by Channel 8. Its funny how the standard of mandarin countdown events never EVER improve! Our jokes and games are FOREVER the same. The way they interview the “stars”, the kids that come out to dance and jump around without synchrony, the same old arrangement for new year songs, that same zodiac man and the NON-LIVE singing performances by our supposedly biggest ah ge ah jie (big brother big sister of mediacorp). Its just like a repeated telecast of the usual Sheng Siong show.

And furthermore, I dont know why our artistes are always using the same old lines every year. Gong xi fa cai , ___ nian xing da yun! (Happy new year, may you prosper in the ___ year!) Just fill in the blanks with the current zodiac year, (which, if you still dunno, is the rabbit this year) and you get the most frequently used line by our mediarcorp artises. Yup! So thats how bad our standards are. Everything always seem to be planned so last minute, which is the only reason I can think of to explain why everything is so… fixed, straight, dull and not live (i mean the singing). K then, enough ranting. Its not like i can do a better job anw. Just my 2 cents, from a viewers point of view. I’m still a fan of our local dramas though 🙂 That, I still am! 🙂

Alright. So hows new year for you guys so far? I’ve already had 2 yu sheng so far. The first one last week, during my HUGE reunion dinner with the entire family and the second one today, (or should i say yesterday) with my own family of 4 🙂 I bet alot of you have had a few more than me already. LOL! Nvm, its not like i’m a hardcore fan of yu shengs anw.

(Oh btw, I bet most of you only aim for the golden pillows rite? hahaha! Busted! 😛 )

K, lets give you guys an update on what had been going on for the past few days.

Found out about this NUS talent time thingy a few weeks back through NUS mail.

Apparently, its not a very big scale thingy like Stardust and I dont even know who or what NUSSU IRC is. The only IRC i know is the chat program i used eons ago. And I thought “hmm since its not so big, no registration fees and $1000 to be won, why not?” So after some consideration, i’ve decided to take a leap of faith (not much of it actually) and take part!

And just what am i going to perform? Wrestle an imaginary bear? Breathe fire? Eat 50 billion hotdogs? Shoot peas out of my nose? Squirt milk out of my eyeball? Spit watermelon seeds? Pull a snake out of my pants? (K sounds wrong)

Nope! I’m going to play music, OBVIOUSLY! Haha, but not alone. I’m going to form an acoustic band and do this as our first gig! 🙂

So who are my members so far?

Veronde (A.K.A Ah Ma) – Superb singer.
Nic – Super zai acoustic guitarist.
Jeremy – Awesome percussionist.
Zhi Xiang – God of keyboard.

And whats the band name? Lady Crab. Dont ask why. I’ll explain next time if we ever get famous. But i’m pretty sure some high IQ-ers will be able to get it quite easily 😛 We’ll see who they are 🙂

Haha yup! 🙂 i’ve just registered for it and i’m actually not even sure if we can even enter the competition now, since there’s ONLY 100 audition spots available. And 280++ ppl have already “liked” the Sparkz page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Sparkz/158552084896) on facebook. Do the maths, and you will realise that we might not even make it past the registration stage!! LOL! But oh well, its not like we’re really desperate for it anw 😛 If it works out, it works out. If not, there’s always plenty of chances to perform 😉

In any case, we will be covering two songs (shall keep it as a surprise for now). Will keep you guys updated. If we do enter the finals (IF!), you might just get to hear me SING for the first time! 🙂 So stay tuned and wish me luck! 🙂

Moving on.

Had a great supper with nic and ah ma a few days back and we happen to stumble upon the topic of “First Impressions”.

Its actually quite funny to find out that Ah ma’s first impression of me wasnt that good! Or at least it wasnt as good as i thought it should be! LOL! I mean i’ve always thought that my first impressions to others would be like chirpy, funny, or maybe friendly. Haha but based on her descriptions of me, I seemed to be slightly obnoxious. But obnoxious is too strong a word i think! Hmm more like…loud-mouthed maybe? haha! But, to be more exact, she felt I was a musically inclined, high-profile loud mouth.

And why this is so, is due to her first encounter with me in the Voices jam studio.

Oh before that, I would just like to say that Ah Ma does the BEST IMPRESSIONS of me! Its funny to the MAX! Couldnt stop laughing after i saw her trying to mimic my actions. Someday, you guys should get her to do it in front of u all. Its funny cause I can totally imagine myself doing it! LOL!

Anyway, according to her, this was what happened that day, which resulted in her thinking that i was a loudmouth!

Some jamming was going on. And she was standing behind the door. And I opened the door. Walked into the room, with big actions and all. Then strided RIGHT INTO THE CENTER of the studio. I dont think i noticed her anyway cause she was kinda like hidden in one corner. And after that, I put my hands on my hips, looked around and realising that I have nothing much to do there, I simply shouted “AI YA! SIAN AH” And then i walked out! LOL!! Funny thing is i dont remember it clearly but i somewhat have an impression of it! Oh well!

After that, she explained to me why she thought I was some musically inclined and a high profile person in Voices.

It was during her practice with Johnathan, for her munchie monkey’s performance. And I happened to see them practising while walking around school with Kai li. So i kinda sat down, and started giving them lots of pointers about how to improve. Mercilessly. So this kinda gave her the impression that I was a very good musician (which i still am! *AHEM*), and at the same time, high profile enough to comment with such vigor and dont-give-face-attitude.

LOL! Ok, I dont deny that I am always more enthu and serious when it comes to anything thats music, be it singing, rhythm or arrangement of songs. But I definitely didnt expect myself to be portrayed as the person she described me to be. hahaha! And thats why the entire conversation was so funny. So many misunderstanding and misconceptions that werent clarified for so long, until that supper night!

No wonder they say, first impression matters! 😛

Totally enjoyed that supper btw 🙂

Hmm…

Actually…this kinda makes me very curious on how many other misconceptions there are about me! Haha! I mean the common misconception would be my age obviously. I mean my age can somehow range from 12 to 25. And sadly, my actual age is the final number in that range, which means that most ppl dont actually guess it right 😦 Oh well! 🙂 Have gotten used to it anw!

But in any case, I’m dying to hear more first impressions about me! 🙂 Do me a favour! Comment by clicking on the speech bubble above and let me know! 🙂 Doesnt matter if its bad or what. Afterall, its only the first impression and if you’re reading this blog, you would most probably know what I’m really like/my actual character is by now. So feel free to shoot! 🙂 And if you tell me, maybe i’ll let u know my first impressions of you too! hahaha! Lets see how this goes 🙂

Shall end this post here. Remember to comment! You can leave your new year wishes there as well 😛

Hare-py New Year too all then! May all your CAP soar and happiness grow everyday!

HUAT AH! 🙂

Interesting Stories…

Posted: January 27, 2011 in School, Stories, Work

Hey all! 🙂 I’m loning (being a loner) at some study area in School of Computing now. Decided to blog while waiting for my FYP meeting to start. Dont feel really good about going for this meeting because:

1) I didnt prepare anything for it. My FYP has two major components. Ok maybe 3. Implementation of the game AKA coding, Report and Presentation. I kinda spent more time on implementation this week, resulting in my slow progress on report writing/literature review.

2) My partner, who did literature review is not coming!! And since he’s not coming, I have just lost the “time-wasting” component for the meeting! For those who dont understand, literature reviews usually take quite some time. SO if he was there, there would be at least some activity going on throughout the meeting. But he’s not coming anymore, and I didnt do any reviews = Good Game. How how how??

K la, I guess I have no other choices.

I’m going to find my professor (k i almost spelt ‘processor’), look at her, and make her stare back at me. Then, we will have a staring competition for 1 hour. Good idea.

No, I’m screwed. In 7 minutes time.

Sigh.

P.S. Will be back after the meeting to complete this post.

Ok I’m back… but kinda late..lol! Its actually 130am and i’m home already. Haha. Anw the staring competition lasted a mere 15 minutes. And it wasnt as bad as i thought it would be because in the end, my supervisor sorta went through my CA report with me, which is the report i handed in last semester. So i guess like they always say “The boat reach the bridge’s head will auto become straight”. Looks like this statement still stands.

So right. Where did i go after the meeting? I went to meet mei, pa and ah ma for lunch, NUS career fair and then my final lecture at 4pm. And then it was Clementi’s arcade, Ang Mo Kio’s arcade before heading home. Then i was on my bed for 30 minutes (fell asleep), bathroom, living room and finally in my room, blogging. Yup, that kinda summarized everything that I had been doing for the past…wait let me calculate…omg 12 hours! I didn’t even realise! LOL!

K anw, back to what i wanted to blog about.

Wanted to share some interesting stories today.

Here are 3 hilarious short stories I found online, which talks a little about office politics. Well not exactly, but check out the “morals” of the stories 😛 The interesting thing is, they all make sense! 🙂

Enjoy! 🙂

Story 1 :

A little bird was flying south for the Winter. It was so cold the bird froze and fell to the ground into a large field.
While he was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him.
As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realize how warm he was.
The dung was actually thawing him out!
He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy.
A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate.

Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him.

Morals of the story:
(1) Not everyone who shits on you is your enemy.
(2) Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend.
(3) And when you’re in deep shit, it’s best to keep your mouth shut!

Story 2 :

An eagle was sitting on a tree resting, doing nothing. A small rabbit saw the eagle and asked him, “Can I also sit like you and do nothing?”
The eagle answered, “Sure , why not.”
So the rabbit sat on the ground below the eagle and rested.
All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit and ate it.

Moral of the story:
To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up.

Story 3 :

A turkey was chatting with a bull. “I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree,” sighed the turkey, “but I haven’t got the energy.”
“Well, why don’t you nibble on some of my droppings?” replied the bull.
“They’re packed with nutrients.”
The turkey pecked at a lump of dung, and found it actually gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree.
The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch.
Finally after a fourth night, the turkey was proudly perched at the top of the tree.

He was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot him out of the tree.

Moral of the story:
Bullshit might get you to the top, but it won’t keep you there.

Cute huh? LOL!

Hope you learnt something!

Anw, I guess thats all for this post. Will be back with some updates real soon! 🙂 So stay tuned.

See y’all! And look forward to tomorrow (or should i say today) cause its….

FRIDAY!!!

T.G.I.F! 🙂

Bye! 🙂

A Quickie II

Posted: January 24, 2011 in Quickie

Booya all! Hows school so far? Sadly, my one-day week timetable is now over and its back to a 3-day week for me 😦 Mind you, I still have my FYP to do! Oh well..

In any case, I’ve just finished my tutorial (which took me AT LEAST 2 hours i think, including revision) and its now time for me to take a break! 🙂 Decided to post a quick update on what has been happening these past few days.

Thusday – Went out with Jo to get a CD from HMV. Apparently the HUGE HMV at the Heerens has already closed down! And since I havent been to town for the past dunno how many months, I didnt know! And Jo, who has only been in Singapore for a few months, obviously didnt know too. This seriously made me feel damn bad for about 10 seconds cause I was the one that suggested Heerens over City Link cause I thought the HMV at Heerens was much bigger! But eventually, things got even when Jo kept suan-ing me, asking me if i’m really a Singaporean and not forgetting all the poking-fun-of-me. So now, I no longer have to feel bad. Instead, I’m going to do the same thing to her when I go China next time. Grr.

Anyway, a huge shoutout to all those who still dont know about this: “THE HMV AT THE HEERENS IS NO LONGER THERE!” *ahem* Thank you.

In any case, Nic was kind enough to then message me to tell me that there’s another big HMV at Somerset 313, where she didnt find her stuff. Instead, she got the latest JYJ album 🙂 Bolded the words because I know that some readers will go “GASP!” and start plotting on how to kope borrow the CD from her. LOL! I particularly know a few people who are thinking about that now ;P

Ok, that about covers Thursday.

Friday was the usual band jamming session. To keep it short, here’s the summary. Jammed till 11 plus -> Supper at Fong Seng with mei, ah ma, nic, david till about 1 am -> Stood outside of ah ma’s house to chit chat until 2+ am -> Reached home around 2.45am. Thanks david for the ride 🙂

Saturday – Impromptu lunch with Veronde and Teresa at Vivo City. But before that we went to shop for Lin Xi’s birthday present. Got him a Girl’s Generation DVD, WITH POSTER! (Bolded the words for the same reason as above) Along the way, we were “attacked” by this lame guy from Action City who’s promoting some Air Gun thingy.

Wait. Let me see if i can find a photo of it online.

Wow, i cant believe i actually found it. Lol. Google is indeed our best friend. And yes, i sure know how to exploit my friend.

Anw, its actually called an AIR BAZOOKA. And here’s how it looks like.

So basically, its this bucket/tube thingy and there’s a balloon like thingy attached to the back of the bazooka. You pull it backwards and air gets sucked in from the front (I think) and when u release it, the air gets pumped out. And it has quite a good range also. We were standing maybe around 10 meters away and we can still feel the air hitting us. Quite a neat toy actually. If only the promoter of the toy didnt look like a creepy stalker, we might at least have walked forward to have a closer look.

The reason why i call him a creepy stalker is because…

Imagine this.

You are walking around Vivo City.

You get hit by this whiff of air.

It kinda feels like someone is brushing through your hair.

Your turn around and think “WTD?!” (Wtd is wtf in canto)

And what do you see?

Ready?

Boomz!

Creepy huh? I’m not kidding k. This is EXACTLY how he smiles like. And damn, its not only creepy its qian zhou (Asking for a beating). And for some reason, she kept harressing Teresa. I think he might be interested in her. But sadly, its a one-sided love. And we (teresa and i) ended up staring at him to make him stop. LOL!

Yup. After getting presents, we had lunch at Kim Gary. Food’s not so bad. Thanks Teresa for the reccomendation.

Linxi joined us after that and got his present. He was so touched he cried and hugged us all. Then, he ran to the open area in Vivo City and shouted “I AM THE HAPPIEST MAN ON EARTH!!!”

Nah, Exaggerated a bit. But yes, could see he was quite touched. So, Happy Belated Birthday Lin Xi. Enjoy your present and remember to watch it behind closed doors and lock your door!! 😛

After that, we wanted to go sing song but sadly the price was WAY TOO EXPENSIVE and there wasnt a good package for that kinda timing. (It was around 4.05 when we reached there) So, we went shopping for new year’s clothes instead. K, shant bore you guys with details and lets end the day’s event here.

Oh anyway, we did take some nice jump shots at Vivo and here’s my favourite 🙂

WATAAAA~

Thanks teresa for the wonderful jumpshot photo taking techniques.

And finally the final shot of the day 🙂

From left: Ah ma, Mei, Me

Great outing! 🙂 🙂

Looking forward to more impromptu gatherings such as this! 🙂

Last but not least…

Sunday – Went shopping for New year’s clothes with Nic. Bought 2 tops. And saw 2 familiar faces 😛 One guy, One girl. Hahaha. But i’m not going to spread any rumours la. Still need their help in future. In any case, have fun guessing who they are! 😛

OK! Finally done. Wanted to post some really funny/interesting stuff I found online but i guess those have to wait for now, cause this post is supposed to be a QUICKIE, not a longkie, slowkie, hu-kie (found in vegeterian food stores) or hongkie. And i’ve way exceeded the 1000 words mark! If only writing essays in school was so easy.

Anyway, dont worry! I think I will be blogging again in 2 3 days time.

Will be posting some photos of my New year clothes too. Remember to help me judge and tell me if my taste is good or bad after that post! Haha. Its about time I changed my style and your opinion matters! 🙂 So rmb to come back and view the stuff i bought.

Right, thats all for now.

See u guys in a few days time.

BYE!!!

Cabin Fever

Posted: January 19, 2011 in Home, Quickie, Random, School

Yeap, I think i’m having a severe case of cabin fever.

And for those who dont know what cabin fever is, here’s the definition from our dear ol’ Wiki:

Cabin fever
is an idiomatic term for a claustrophobic reaction that takes place when a person or group is isolated and/or shut in, in a small space, with nothing to do, for an extended period (as in a simple country vacation cottage during a long rain or snow). Symptoms include restlessness, irritability, irrational frustration with everyday objects, forgetfulness, laughter, excessive sleeping, distrust of anyone they are with, and an urge to go outside even in the rain, snow or dark. The phrase is also used humorously to indicate simple boredom from being home alone.

Ah ha! The last line fits EXACTLY what i’m feeling! Thanks to my 1-day-week timetable (at least for the first 2 weeks), I only go to school on Thursday. And NO, i’m not trying to boast/bullshit here. I’m sure you know how it feels when u’re not in school and yet all your other friends, are. And to make things worse, no one is really online or in the mood to chit chat. Yes yes, I admit I did have alot of time to relax and lie around for the past few days, and yes, I admit it was quite shiok. But after 1 or 2 days, it gets really boring. You feel extremely restless and your engine just refuses to start. You tell yourself to spend the time wisely like do up resume, or look for some jobs, but somehow, you get stuck in this I-dont-wanna-switch-on-my-laptop mood. K, i think you get the idea. To those who still think i’m trying to be sarcastic, I’m not.

To summarize in 5 words, I’ve got Cabin Fever. (yes i consider i’ve as 2 words)

So to get my engine started to at least do some useful stuff, I decided to leave my “cabin” and do work at the library instead. Fortunately, I found a seat with a plug after like 1 hour of walking around + reading some Tin Tin and Asterix comics. Haha totally brought back memories.

(Ok while i’m typing this, some childish kids are causing a ruckus at the table behind me. And the roving officer has already come like twice and they are still laughing away at something I dont understand. Either that, or they are clearing their throat loudly. Ok, one of them just sniffed, and the others started laughing. I.. totally dont understand kids nowadays. Kids who think they are cooler and mightier than everyone around them.)

Anyway, I have been working a little on my FYP for the past hours and I guess progress is slower than I expected. But at least i’m making SOME progress right? 🙂 Have been looping AJ Rafael’s When We Say and David Choi’s Wont Even Start and My Girl on youtube. Currently my favourite songs. Go have a listen if you havent heard them b4. Will introduce the songs in my blog sometime i guess. Support Asian Songwriters! Stop listening to Bieber/Ke$ha/Gaga!

Right, in any case, I didnt really spend my time rotting at home la. I actually did some spring cleaning because Chinese New Year’s coming. And as usual, I’m not really looking forward to the day itself at all. Lol! I’m sure its not a surprise to some of you cause I think I’ve talked about this many times, in front of many ppl.

But, just for the record and for the sake of people who still dont know, I prefer Christmas to Chinese New Year! In fact, I prefer Christmas to any other day on the calendar! 🙂

Look, here’s why.

When I think of Christmas, I think of a quiet…romantic…cozy and heartwarming day filled with surprises and nice jazzy songs. But when I think of CNY, I think of loud chinese music,  congested streets, uncle aunties shouting across streets and houses, and sitting beside relatives that you arent exactly close with, watching some Stephen Chow show that has been repeated like 243325 times. And the conversation always revolve around “So what you doing now? Still studying? Wah why study so long?” or “This peanut quite nice hor.” Yeap, and once in a while, we share a laugh at Stephen Chow changing a poker card into a dragonball trading card, or him sitting in a classroom getting whacked by a flying blackboard duster. (I’m sure you know the shows i’m talking about, right? :P) Not forgetting, the intense spring cleaning before New Year day itself.

SO, my point is I’ve never been a huge fan of Chinese New Year and might never be. 🙂 Of course, I still enjoy hanging out with my dear cousins, having huge reunion dinners and the Ang Pows. But I dont think i’ll ever look forward to the day like I look forward to Christmas. 🙂

Ok, I’ve once again proved that a leopard never changes its spots. Totally digressed from what I was talking about.

Lets see, yes! Spring Cleaning. Yup, I did some spring cleaning yesterday and here’s how it looks like now!

Here’s an exclusive inside look at my wardrobe! Not many ppl can see what’s inside Luo Zhi Xiang’s Wardrobe OK! So feel honoured! 🙂

Here it is 🙂

Neat huh! 🙂 Hope you dont see somehing u’re not supposed to see LOL.

Oh, and I swept and mopped my floor too!

Clean?? Clean right?

Lol!

Its so clean that I actually dare to show you the photo I took of my floor using my microscopic camera!

Check that out! Not even ONE SPECK OF DUST/HAIR!

Lol! I’ve gotta be the best spring cleaner that ever lived!

Alright man, guess I’ll stop here now and get back to work! 🙂

Looking forward to Friday’s jam where I can have some TCS and some good music again! 🙂 Look forward with me k!

P.S. Btw TCS = Talk Cock Session. Leave comments by clicking speech bubble on top k 😛

BYE! 🙂

SF4 + FFG

Posted: January 15, 2011 in Fun and Games, Rants, School

Sigh..what a boring Saturday afternoon! Haha suppose to be working on my FYP but i guess i’ll take a little break.

So as most of you should know, the second semester in NUS has officially started and its back to the usual routine. Sleep -> Play game -> Sleep -> Play game -> Do Work -> Play game -> Sleep -> Play game…

Sigh sad life.

K i’m just kidding, I’m not really a gamer. Cause my previous laptop is just not suitable for any games. Unless you wanna play every game in slow motion. K but at least I can play starcraft 1 at ULTRA HIGH settings. Ha! not bad huh!

Wrong.

Thats pathetic k!

ANYWAY, i do admit I go to the arcade very often. As most of my friends know, the arcade has somewhat been my (whats the word…) paradise since I was a kid. K not really paradise but a place where I can hang out, chill and let my problems disappear. Know what i mean? I’m sure everyone has one place in their heart for this kinda thing. For some people its in the comfort of their own room, for others, its jogging in a stadium or clubbing. Yup. And thats what the arcade means to me. So dont judge me and say that I’m childish or anything like that. You dont hear me calling you a caffeine addict just because you love coffee right?

K, maybe I do call nic that sometimes.

K, I do that many times actually.

Fine. Doesnt matter. Moving along…

Dont have much to talk about today except I’ve finally gotten my ORIGINAL copy of Street Fighter IV for PC! 🙂 Have been waiting a long time for this because my previous com couldnt really handle the graphics and I had to play every match in a Black Background with invisible fireballs thrown at me. Yes, you heard me right. Ryu’s hadoken appears invisble when model quality settings are set to Low.

Wait a minute.

If i’ve just gotten my original copy of SF4. But i’ve been playing it before that. Does that mean I’ve been using a PIRATED COPY?! :O :O :O

Find out! In the next episode of…..

Nvm.. I’m just bored.

Here’s some pics for you to enjoy!

Anyway, playing online is sometimes very frustrating because you often meet Turtles, Corner Huggers, Scrubs. These are basically people who dont play very well but have a lot of battle points because they keep moving backwards. Ok for people who dont play games, just think of battle points as points that increase of decrease when you win/lose the match. And as for turtles. Just think of them as lousy basketball  players who keep standing under the basketball net and when the ball comes they just shoot and score. Yup. They are not very  good but they get alot of points. 🙂 Get it now? Yeah, so its very frustrating to lose to these people and see their battle points increase, while yours drop. And the thing is you cant really do anything about it. Just imagine. He doesnt do anything but stay in one corner. As you approach, he hits you with a couple of punches and run away. Repeat this 100 times and he wins. Pro huh?

Here let me show you what it looks like.

And feel free to stop the vid halfway if you get boring of the turtle. I’m sure you can feel the frustration for yourself.

Now you understand? Yup. So the internet is INFESTED with players like these all around.

In my opinion, a real SFIV player should play something like this…

See the difference?

Anw enough of ranting since most of you might not be interested in the first place. But i still hope you understand what i’m trying to say here.

Moving on.

I’ve finally FILED FOR GRADUATION! Which means that I will graduate successfully after this sem! Unless of course…something screws up.. CHOY!! *Touch wood Touch wood* Hahaha yup!

Anw here’s a glimse of ALL the modules that I’ve taken over my entire 4 years in NUS. Some of these modules really bring back alot of memories. Both good and bad.

The memories include papers which got me a B+ even though I skipped 50% of the paper, project groupings with members that dont do anything but ask me questions / tell me things like “but i dont know how to do” (Hate this kind the most. Dont they know what Google is?), assignments which made me stay in school till the wee hours and still got me bad grades, and not forgetting lectures which are so boring I dont even remember taking the mod.

But graduation also mean that i’m going to enter society, and I’m going to leave Voices, which is kinda sad.

SO

I’ve decided that I’m going to come back to Voices even after I graduate!! Haha..guess I’ll be playing Narisa’s role then. The mentor / nanny of the musicians. Looks like I’ve gotta train up my nagging skills quickly 🙂

Right, I guess thats about it for now. Going for Yan Jia’s 21st birthday party! 🙂

Here’s a big shoutout to the prettiest president of all clubs:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY YANJIA! Have an excellent party later and go watch some R21 movies together someday! LOL!

K then, signing off, for now. Bye!

Alright, holidays are now over and the new semester is already here. And yes, I know I should have blogged earlier before the holidays ended. But for some reason, I felt the need to fully enjoy the last few days of my holidays before moving on to my FINAL semester in NUS 🙂 Because after this sem, there will be no more “school-holidays” for me as I make my way into the Big-fish-eat-small-fish, dog-eat-dog, mario-eat-mushroom, shark-infested, backstabbers-populated, politics-plaqued cruel society.

Sadly, I found myself wasting  spending more time on my FYP (due end of this sem) than anything else 😦 Programming a multiplayer game is indeed one of the harder things I’ve ever done. I mean, programming a 3D game is already quite hard in my opinion (due to my lack of knowledge in 3D maths) but programming the multiplayer aspects brings it to a whole new level. (K I actually typed out the details but found out that it was too technical for most of you. So I’ve decided to just remove the whole chunk of irrelevant info).

In any case, here’s a screenshot of what my FYP game currently looks like:

Not too shabby huh? 🙂

For those who are wondering what I’m actually doing for my FYP, here’s a short description taken from the admin site:

Colonisation of Southeast Asia/ City-resource utilization are classroom-based games used with the Gifted Education students. The purpose is to allow students to experience the associated via an engaging group decision-making game. This project requires to convert the concept into an interactive usable computer game.

Yup, so basically what I’m supposed to do is to convert an existing board game into a computerized version. And in this case, my partner and I decided on making it a 3D game (3D as in 3D aspect. Not the 3D in 3D-TV).  More screenshots will be coming as we develop the game further this semester 🙂 So stay tuned…

Alright, moving along…

Lets see.. what else did i do?

Oh yes! For those who havent been stalking me on facebook, I’ve just bought a new laptop 🙂 And no words can describe how I feel owning this baby! Afterall, this is only my second laptop and my first one was not exactly the best in the market at that time. And compared to my first laptop, this one is a HUGE upgrade.

They say a picture speaks a thousand words.

So, I shall use a picture to show you exactly how i feel.

Ok… Thats still a word..

Lets see if i can find a better pic..

How about…

This!

Awww..so cute 🙂 I bet he just got a pair of new diapers that can hold up to an additional litre of urine. Or a new pacifier made up of TITANIUM Scratch proof rubber!

Yup! And thats exactly how i feel! Like a baby when my parents buy home the easy-to-put-on Pampers with Wings.

Oh the joy!!!

(Wait a minute…does diapers have wings? No no i’m serious. I think I got both products mixed up. Or is it velcro. Ah who cares, you get the idea…and I’m too lazy to press BACKSPACE now…)

K K ANYWAY…

Here’s a final glimpse of my baby (not the one above) before i stop bragging about it, at least before I bring it to school and show it to my friends. WAHAHAHHAA! K k just kidding :

*Drumroll*

*Ta-da!*

*Drools…*

*Wipes* *Ahem* Yup! So there it is! 🙂 With Gouken’s wallpaper and Jo’s fen book at the side of the table. 🙂

I’m a happy man 🙂

Right.. Anw, I spent quite alot of time setting up my laptop also. Yup! Gotta install quite a number of things to prepare it for new games semester. Ya, so gotta install things like Office, Unity3D, EclipseS (Plural because there’s many versions), and back up stuff from my old laptop. But fortunately, I’m done with most of the installation stuff. 🙂 Now to just run some games and test its power! 😛

After spending most of my time on these stuff, the remaining time was spent on two groups of people 🙂 And they are none other than Voices and Luo Jia! 🙂 Have been jamming, eating dinner, hanging out, listening to music together. Very much like a small family. 🙂 Truly enjoyed my holidays with them. So thanks all 🙂

K, I guess that about sums it up.

I shall now list down the things that I actually wanted to do during the holidays, before the holidays started and what I’ve actually accomplished after the holidays.

1 ) Write a new song.

2 ) Revive my blog.

3 ) Revive my Podcast.

4 ) Create a starcraft 1 Mod.

5 ) Perform for at least 2 gigs.

6 ) Buy new laptop.

7 ) Do some audio recordings for fun.

8 ) Pack my room.

9 ) Organize a huge party/gathering.

10 ) Find and teach more pop piano students.

Wow. Not so bad. 7/10. Ok then, guess the other 3 gotta wait till I graduate or when I have the spare time 🙂 No more procrastination Zhi Xiang! 🙂

Oh yes, how could i forget this. I’ve Filed For Graduation successfully! 🙂 Which means I can successfully graduate after this semster! Whoo! *Conffetti* 🙂 Shall talk more about this in my next post cause I gotta go now! 🙂

K then, bye all! Will be back soon! 🙂

A day of UP and DOWN…

Posted: January 5, 2011 in Movies, Quickie, Technology

Okie dokz~ Just a quickie to keep my blog updated…

Had a long and emotion-ful day today.

First things first. Went to Sim Lim Square today to make sure that the deal I saw at Funan was the best. For those who dont know, I’m finally changing my laptop after 3 and a half years! 🙂 And after few months of looking through all the models / specs / waiting for new deals + a few days of recce-ing at Sim Lim Square and Funan, I found the perfect deal at one of the shops in Funan!

Here’s the model i’m going to get (in about 12 hours time i think) –

MSI GX640 Gaming Laptop

Important Specifications:

Processor: Intel i7 – 740QM
Memory: 8GB DDR3 RAM
Graphic Card: ATI Radeon HD5850 with 1GB DDR5 VRAM (Wow factor..yes yes I know theres the 5870 but its way above my budget)
Weight: 2.7 kg
Cost: $1,899 (Another huge WOW factor)

K, such power! in a 2.7kg laptop and lower than $2K! What more could i ask for.

I know some of you are sure to tell me about heat issues (I’m very sure who are the few ppl who will comment about this). But dont worry 🙂 I’ve done the necessary research and i’m quite sure how i’m going to handle that. Afterall, I spent nearly 1 month researching models after models, benchmark tests after benchmark tests, reviews after reviews. So, no worries! 🙂

Right, so i found this deal at $2000 in one of the shops in Funan 2 days ago and I was like SUPER happy. Just ask the person who went with me :P. But something amazing happened today! K maybe amzing is too strong a word, but u get what i mean. After asking around 6 to7 shops in Sim Lim Square, I found the EXACT same deal at only $1899!! Wah u can imagine how happy I was. Totally ecstatic! And i was so glad that I immediately paid a deposit to reserve a model, which i will be picking up in maybe 11 hours from now 😛 haha!

Here it is 🙂 Cant wait!

K so that completes the UP part…

The DOWN part came because (like what my facebook status says) I almost teared while watching Hello Stranger. Which started off as a comedy but got quite touching near the end.

Here’s the trailer:

Yup~ I strongly recommend this show. Shant do a review now cause i cant think. But to me, its the kind of story that’s close to the hearts of many people.

I rmb the last time I felt this way was after watching 小孩不笨2 (I not Stupid 2), when I also almost dropped my 男儿泪 (manly tears) during the scene when the dad kept hitting his son until the son shouted “When are you going to stop hitting me?!” That scene somehow brought me to the time when my mum used to beat me for not satisfying her expectations of me. And I sorta grew up working hard to make my parents happy. Yup, but fortunately, things are much much better now 🙂 So dont worry 🙂

For Hello Stranger, it sort of brought back some memories, which i shant talk about here YET. But yeah, I guess thats why it appeals to me so much. However, even if you dont have such memories (I hope not), I will still recommend it because of the script and how the story plays with your emotions. One minute its making you laugh at the riduculous behaviour of the male lead, and next minute, it makes you feel really 酸 (sour) for the main actor/actress. And there are times when you dont even know what to feel 😛 Just watch and you will understand what i mean. Lastly, I think the lead actress acts really well in this show and according to the reviews I have read, this is actually her first movie appearance! And I think its really quite impressive. Kinda reminds me of Jayden Smith (Will Smith’s son) in Karate Kid.

SO, in any case, even though it made the people i watched with, and myself cry (which explains why I call this the DOWN moment today), I strongly recommend everyone to go catch it! 🙂 4.5/5 stars! 🙂 0.5 for the…nvm..shant spoil u guys.

K then, its late and i’ve gotta go sleep!

Good night all, good night world. Tomorrow will be a good good day 🙂

Bye!
